About Sweet Melody Macarons

I didn’t start out with the idea of making a business selling French Macarons. But it’s funny how a passion for something can take on a life of its own.

I first discovered this beautiful little creation they call the French Macaron when visiting our kids in Calgary. My wonderful daughter-in-law treated us to these little gems at a coffee shop in the Chinook Mall.

One bite and I was in love.

You see, the French Macaron, when rightly made, is the perfect mix of “crunchy on the outside and chewy on the inside.” There is a soft, playful crunch, followed by a chewy texture that leaves you savouring every bite – not because you can’t eat it faster. It’s just that when something is this good, you want it to last.

So with great enthusiasm, I decided I would go about the business of making me some.

What an adventure that turned out to be.

You see, “making” them is not so tough; making them perfectly is another story altogether. And it’s taken me literally 6 months and hundreds of attempts to perfect the craft.

It’s not just about the ingredients, though finding the exact mix was a part of it. It’s about technique – about how you mix the ingredients together, and when, and in what proportions, and a hundred other little tricks that have become almost intuitive, but oh, so important.

It’s complex. But it is so satisfying to be able to share something that is a result of this journey of discovery.

I’ve found in these little French Macarons a passion for pursuing something with excellence. It’s not about bragging or anything. It’s more that when you finally find the secrets and are able to repeat them over and over again that you find that you want to share a good thing.

I do believe when you try my Sweet Melody Macarons, you’ll fall in love with them as much as I love making them for you to share with you and yours.
